This is just a blog where I post my rants about stuff that interests me or annoys me. The domain- and blogname is obviously a reference to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and the genius of Douglas Adams. I was just browsing for random available domain names, and it seemed as good as any choice really. So here it is!

MarvinI am from Norway, currently living in Oslo and I am 34 years old. I have a background in electronics and IT. Up to 2007 I was working as an IT consultant both doing IT administration for small businesses and public service offices, and programming websites for small businesses in cooperation with a graphic design company. My webdesign business was something I brought with me from Sydney, Australia, where I lived for 2 years in 2001/2002. I mostly do coding in php on the LAMP platform (Linux-Apache-MySQL-php). I have also done a lot of administration of Windows 2003/2008 systems on multi-domain networks. I have been working with Windows servers sine NT4.0. Personally I use Linux and have tow Linux-servers at home running on Ubuntu 10.04 and 11.04 server, and  a high-performance desktop computer, a laptop and a media centre PC all running Ubuntu 10.04/11.04.

At the moment I am not working much, but studying. I have finished a bachelor program in physics and have now started on a masters degree in computational physics at the University of Oslo.

Other than studying, I used to post a lot on forums like TalkRational.org where I posted under the name Species8472 (a Star Trek reference). I no longer have the time to be active on forums, but I have been involved in debating alternative medicine for a campaign initiated by the Norwegian Humanist Association earlier this year. I also follow a number of science blogs and news services. I don’t have much free time these days, but I do like mountain hiking when I have some time off. Photography is also a small hobby of mine that I wish I had more time for. I also love movies, and especially science fiction and grindhouse movies. I do try to read a bit too, mostly science fiction or fantasy.
